Christina Green: The Seed of a New Democracy

Posted by Deeda on Friday, January 14, 2011, In : Current Issues

As a keen observer of times and seasons, I believe that we may have just flipped a new page in history through the recent tragedy in Arizona. Nine-year old Christina Green, a victim of the recent Tucson shooting became the providential seed of a new democracy, by a new generation, for a new people. Her death is a symbolic transfer of the baton to fresh minds and ideals in the race towards the restoration of the glory of a nation in transition.

A Psalm Prayer for Our Youth

Posted by Deeda on Wednesday, October 27, 2010, In : Religion

The Book of Psalms chapter 144 was written by David after his encounter with his son Absalom, who tried to dethrone him as King. Parenting comes with such intuitive and divinely orchestrated responsibilities that a few hours of parenting class prescribed by a psychologist or social worker is never enough to deal with the core issues that are associated wit...

Will The Real Fathers Please Stand Up!

Posted by Deeda on Wednesday, June 23, 2010, In : Family

My good friend called the other day, weeping like a baby.  Apparently, she had been bitten by the “Father’s Day bug”. A few years ago, she lost her father whom she loved dearly, in a battle with the big C. Ever since, she periodically succumbs helplessly to episodes of grieving. Episodes that would make anyone wonder what a wonderful man her father must have been.

Most daughters tend to be “daddy’s girl” indefinitely. I can say this with such conviction because my dad was my be...
